Chicago-based duos Sonnenzimmer (Nick Butcher and Nadine Nakanishi) and AppleButter Animated (Megan Jedrysiak and Jackson Ammenheuser) team up for a unique collaborative exhibition exploring the intersection between image and touch. Pairing two-dimensional works, motion, and interactive sculptures, the exhibition scratches at the proverbial surface separating image and object.
With dedicated histories in graphic experimentation (Sonnenzimmer) and experimental animation (AppleButter Animated), the duos harness their respective mediums and step into adjacent territories. Sonnenzimmer explores soft paintings, experimental print works, and extends their graphic gestures to tangible and touchable objects. AppleButter bring motion into the round with their painting robot, projections, and original paintings.
Experiencing these works in tandem, the viewer is urged to triangulate the space between surface and meaning, action and attraction.
